  Middle School English/Literature Teacher

 Westwood Schools is seeking a Middle School English/Literature teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Establish clear expectations for classroom rules, routines, and procedures and enforce them consistently and appropriately
  • Promote a warm, inviting and supportive classroom environment that is safe and conducive to learning
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior in the classroom
  • Demonstrate an accurate, deep, and current knowledge of subject matter
  • Plan for instruction to meet the needs of all students while engaging students and maintaining high levels of interest
  • Build upon students’ existing knowledge and skills
  • Effectively use appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning
  • Communicate and present material clearly, and check for understanding
  • Develop higher-order thinking through questioning and problem-solving activities
  • Differentiate instruction to meet individual developmental needs
  • Provide remediation, enrichment, and acceleration to enhance student comprehension
  • Provide constructive and frequent feedback to students on their progress toward their learning goals
  • Respond to disruptions in a timely, appropriate manner
  • Provide transitions that minimize loss of instructional time
  • Provide academic rigor, encourage critical and creative thinking and motivate students to achieve goals
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and behavior (e.g., appearance, punctuality and attendance)
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents or guardians, school personnel, and other stakeholders in ways that enhance student learning
  • Engage in activities outside the classroom intended for school and student enhancement
  • Accept constructive criticism and advice for improving performance
  • Adhere to the established chain of command
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the headmaster

 Elementary PE Teacher 

 Westwood Schools is looking for an enthusiastic elementary PE teacher. This person should be energetic, exhibit patience, compassion and a positive attitude while working to inspire and support young children with unique characteristics and personalities. Specific emphasis should be placed on the development of athletic fundamental skills to enhance future athletic programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct lessons/activities that help promote healthy habits
  • Teach basic fundamentals for multiple sports
  • Must be willing to coach multiple sports (possibly girls’ basketball & softball)
  • Attend to individual children’s needs while also monitoring other children
  • Keep all areas neat, clean and safe
  • Treat each child with dignity and respect and comfort distress, as needed
  • Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline
  • Guide children in working and playing successfully with others
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Must be willing to work in our afterschool daycare program
  • Interact professionally with other teachers, administrators and parents as needed
  • Must understand the confidential nature of working in an educational setting
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor(s)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 Must have attained a high school diploma or equivalence. Previous teaching/supervision experience a plus.
