Teacher Swap Day!

WESTWOOD TEACHERS SWAP JOBS

By Carole Powell

On Monday, November 17th, the faculty at Westwood stepped into the shoes of a fellow teacher for "Teacher Swap Day." Teachers were aMadorah Palmer, K3 teacher, and 10th graders show off their project.ssigned to teach for 30 minutes in another's teacher's classroom. The assignment varied, but the faculty was given a totally different view of education in a new subject area or grade level.

Coach Noel Martin and Coach Al Timmerman, both high school faculty, were assigned to teach Mrs. Farrah Williams K-4 class. Al Timmerman said " It was fun for 30 minutes, but I'm not sureI'd like it for the whole day. We were thankful not to have any emergencies."

Mrs. Rhonda Bush, a K-4 teacher changed jobs and worked in the high school. "I used digi-blocks will working with Mrs. Dean's physics class. The students had a lot of fun and were surprised to find them difficult. I though it was a great idea to experience life on the other side."

Nancy Rogers a high school English teacher swapped classes with Gege Baggett and taught a K-5 class. According to Mrs. Rogers, it was a real change of pace. Azalee Vereen, who is a high school math teacher, taught a K-3 class and said, " I have a real appreciation for my job and that of others now. I enjoyed the experience but was glad to get back to my own classroom."

Pam Dean a high school science teacher, taught the K-5 students using a human skull. She said she was amazed at the excitement she saw in the younger children. Gail Moss and Carole Powell exchanged jobs and both agreed, "We were glad to get back to our own element."

The purpose for this day was to let teachers see what others deal with on a day-to-day basis and promote a closeness between students and teachers of varying grade levels. All who were asked agreed it was an interesting experience but have also gained a new insight and appreciation for their fellow faculty members. Westwood plans to repeat their swap day in the future.
