Elementary Dress Code
2003-2004
The current dress code reads as follows; "It is important that your
child be dressed comfortably but neatly. Please keep in mind that each
day your child participates in physical education; therefore, practical
clothes must be worn. Tennis shoes must be worn during physical education,
no flip-flops or cleats. Please leave caps and hats at home. Shirttails
must be tucked in. In upper elementary, third-fifth, shorts can be no
higher than 6 inches above the top of the knee. No tank tops please."
The revision to our elementary dress code is as follows.
1. K-3 and K-4 dress code will not be revised
2. Pants for students in grades K5-5th grade may have either belt loops
or elastic waistbands, however belts must be worn with belt loop pants.
3. All shirts and blouses must have a collar and be worn tucked in. Coordinated
shirt/slack outfits or blouse/slack outfits are acceptable provided they
have a collared top. Shorts and coordinated short/top outfits are also
acceptable provided they have collared tops.
4. Small emblems or patches like butterflies, Winnie the Pooh, or ribbons
on blue jeans are acceptable since these often are placed on children's
clothes. No athletic, coaching, or jogging shorts, or wind suits please.
5. Students are permitted to wear their junior cheerleading uniforms on
pep rally and game days.
6. Our elementary teachers strongly encouraged students to wear tennis
shoes to school. This will solve any problems students may have when going
to P.E. and recess.
7. Our focal point in next year's elementary dress code is collared shirts
and blouses that are tucked in. Tee shirts will not be acceptable for
school dress next year. Westwood tee shirts may be worn on Friday or days
at the discretion of the administration.
Your cooperation and support will be greatly appreciated. We want the
best for Westwood students and feel the revision in our dress code will
enhance our school and academics.
Thank you,
Dress Code Committee
